
Anticipated Opening for District Transportation Director

Salary/Benefits: The salary range is $60,000 to $65,000, based on experience. Employee and dependent health care provided, IMRF eligible, 14 sick days, three personal days, and 20 vacation days on a year-long contract. Eligible to have non-district tuition waived for children for whom the employee is the legal guardian.

Duties:
- Oversees all of the Transportation Coordinator's duties and provides help where needed
- Creates and monitors a strong culture that fosters appreciation and support
- Handles issues with complaints, routing questions, and monitors boundary compliance.
- Recommends new hires, promotions, and terminations for staffing needs.
- Evaluates and oversees all transportation staff
- Follow up on student bus discipline referrals with administrators including obtaining video as requested.
- Scheduling of coverage for daily routes each day for drivers and bus aides
- Scheduling of time off for drivers and bus aides
- Finalizing timesheets
- Driver and bus aide discipline
- Routing questions or changes
- Driver and bus aide disputes
- Tracking of department budget
- Facilitates the bidding process for purchases that are at the bidding threshold and provides recommendations.
- Maintains Trip List Daily with appropriate details, including departure and return times.
- Assigns drivers on the trip list from the Athletic Director or Administration and communicates that to the drivers
- Creates trip sheets for designated trips on designated days
- Communicates with district road commissioners.
- Participates in administrative team meetings and meets with building administrators and the athletic director regularly
- Communicates with all necessary parties regarding routing and other transportation issues
- Files and maintains accident reports
- Monitors compliance with all Board, ROE, and ISBE compliance
- Processes annual transportation claim for ISBE
- Other duties as assigned by the superintendent.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Hold a valid Illinois Driver’s License and a valid CDL Class B motor vehicle license.
- Previous experience working in a transportation-related field is preferred but not required.
- Problem-solving to come up with solutions
- Ability to communicate with students, parents, and staff in an acceptable / courteous manner.
- Must have excellent oral and written communication skills to work with teachers, education support personnel, building administrators, and the general public.
- Professionally enforce school regulations and policies.
- Ability to maintain good working relationships with fellow employees and pupils.
- Ability to maintain a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information as expected of all staff members.
