From May 19, 2025 Board Meeting

The Maroa-Forsyth CUSD#2 Board of Education held its monthly board meeting on May 19th, 2025, at 5:30 in the MFHS library.

Good News

Good news was shared with the board for several individuals and groups.

  • Outstanding Band and Choir Concerts
  • Sangamo Champs: MFHS Girls’ Track
  • Macon County Track Champs-MFHS Girls’ and Boys’ Track
  • IHSA Girls’ Sectional Track Champs
  • Baseball-Sangamo Champs
  • The Bass Fishing Team won their regional
  • Congratulations to the class of 2025

The board approved the following items in the consent agenda.

  • Approved the minutes of the regular and closed session board meeting held on April 21st, 2025 and the special board meeting held on May 1st, 2025 regular session minutes
  • Approved the financial report.
  • Approved the bills as presented.
  • Approved the destruction of audio of closed session minutes 18 months or older.
  • Accepted the resignation of Trey Longstreet as HS Boys Basketball Assistant.
  • Accepted the resignation of Aaron Ringle as GS paraprofessional.
  • Approved the hiring of Amber Scott as HS special education teacher for the 25-26 school year.

New Business

  • Mr. Ibbotson shared information regarding the transportation audit and consultation with Jim Lovelace. The recommendations looked at streamlining payroll processes, making mileage tracking more efficient, creating a standard operating procedures manual, clearly defining roles and responsibilities in the department, recruiting and retaining drivers, and routing efficiencies to maximize route timing.
  • Mr. Johnson presented the final tax levy for Macon and DeWitt counties.
  • All non-certified staff were rehired for the 2025-2026 school year. Those employees will receive a letter of reasonable assurance of a position in the district next year.
  • The board approved an intergovernmental agreement with ROE#39, which provides alternative education placements for district students. This is an annual agreement that is signed.
  • Mr. Applebee shared the open extracurricular coaching positions. The board learned how non-certified persons are hired for paid positions and how volunteers are approved in the hiring process. Mr. Ibbotson shared with the board that the district is looking at several options for filling the vacant math position. Currently, there are no applicants for the position, and the district continues to find solutions to offer math courses that our students have requested.
  • The handbook changes for next year were approved. The bullying policy was updated in all three handbooks, along with other minor changes. Each building is doing a deep dive into their handbooks to align them more closely and model them after the Illinois Principals’ Association Model handbook.

  • Jill Feinstein shared information about an upcoming IASB event on June 3rd.

The board entered into executive session for the following reason(s):

For the appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, dismissal, or performance of specific employees of the public body, Section 5 ILCS 120/2(c)(1) and Student disciplinary cases 5 ILCS 120/2(c)(10)
