Salary/Benefits: The hourly rate is $18.49 for the 25-26 school year. Additional years of experience would be compensated at a higher rate. This is a benefit-eligible position with a monthly stipend of $455 towards insurance.

Duties:

  • Discusses assigned duties with classroom teachers to coordinate instructional efforts.

  • Provides support for accommodations for students in and out of the classroom.

  • Monitors and provides accommodations for testing for students

  • Presents subject matter to students under the direction and guidance of teachers, using lectures, discussions, or supervised role-playing methods.

  • Establishes a supportive and sympathetic relationship with the student(s) as fully as possible without fostering or encouraging intense emotional involvement.

  • Supervises students in classrooms, halls, cafeterias, schoolyards, and gymnasiums, as well as on field trips and other extracurricular activities.

  • Distribute teaching materials such as textbooks, workbooks, papers, and pencils to students.

  • Enforces administration policies and rules governing students.

  • Teaches socially acceptable behavior, employing behavior modification and positive reinforcement techniques.

  • Works with students with multiple physical, mental, and developmental disabilities.

  • Is familiar with and uses adaptive equipment, including communication devices, wheelchairs, and adaptive feeding tools.

  • Students may be required to perform tasks they are unable to do, such as taking notes, handling materials, or holding books.

  • May work with/handle resistant students.

  • Maintains a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students as is expected of fully licensed teachers.

  • Assists the classroom teacher in other tasks necessary in maintaining a professional and positive classroom environment and performs other teacher aide duties as may be assigned by the classroom teacher, administration or Board of Education.

Qualifications:

  1. Hold a paraprofessional certificate or be willing to obtain one.

  2. Working with teachers, education support personnel, building administrators, and the general public requires excellent communication skills, both oral and written.

  3. Professionally enforce school regulations and policies.

  4. Ability to maintain good working relationships with fellow employees and pupils.

  5. Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.

  6. Requires the employee to have the ability to push/pull up to 10 lbs.

  7. Must be detail-oriented.

  8. Travel required mid-day, documented mileage will be reimbursed at the current rate.
