From April 15, 2024 board meeting

The board of education held their regular board meeting on April 15, 2024 in the high school library. The following items were acted upon or discussed during the meeting.

The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Eliza Lum and Izzy Ekiss they are members of our elementary student council.

The board heard many good news items taking place in the school district. Congratulations to Makiah Stephen on her 1st place finish in the 60 meter hurdles at the Illinois State Indoor Meet. The board recognized Madelyn Tapperson for her 2Nd place finish in the St. Louis Symphony Art show. In addition, the board recognized Lillen Smith, Aseel Saleh, Hailey Cole, Roman Griffith, Natalie Griffith, Landon Kirby, Kinsley Lidy, Tabtabaei Navid and Venkitsubramanian Anisha for their participation in the Eastern Illinois University Elementary Choir Festival sponsored by the Illinois Music Educators Association. Finally, the board recognized members of the cast of the musical Chicago.

The board recognized Carrie Reynolds for securing a $60,000 dollar ADM Cares Grant. A portion of the grant will be used to fund our reinstatement of the Family and Consumer Science program and our high school ag program.

The board approved the minutes of the regular and closed session meeting minutes held on March 18, 2024.

The board approved the financial report and monthly bills for the month.

The board approved the destruction of audio closed session minutes 18 months or older.

The board approved the retirement letters submitted by Julie Keith and Rebecca Nashland.

The board approved the resignation of Jordan Dukeman 1st grade teacher and Erin Atherton-Boys as part-time high school math teacher.

The board hired Camryn Skundberg as middle school softball assistant coach.

The board approved the admission fees, facility usage fees, official fees, and class fees for the 24-25 school year. Registration fees will remain the same for the 24-25 school year.

The board approved the maternity leave request for Heather Ennis.

The board approved the out of district request for admission to Maroa-Forsyth High School for the 24-25 school year. The annual tuition rate for out of district students is just under $10,640.00

The board placed on review the Illinois Association of School Board policy issue 114. The board will approve the updates at the May board meeting.

The board approved the school district consolidated plan. This plan lays out how the district spends its federal title dollars.

The board agreed to secure an additional social worker that will serve PK-12 students.

The board approved the school facilities plan which includes an elementary school playground, new lighting at the grade school and high school. New windows in the high school. We will be doing some concrete work around the high school in addition to sealing and stripping the high school parking lot.

The high school gym and sports entry way will be painted We will be upgrading the landscaping at the elementary school. This project is being paid for out of our bond money.

The board was updated on our general liability policy. We will be changing providers.

Illinois Association of School Board liaison Jill Feinstein updated the board on school board association happenings.

The board reviewed principal and athletic director reports as presented.
